It has the same fundamental structure as a classic cake: butter, sugar, eggs, flour, and liquid but is designed to be light, moist, and perfectly portioned. Cupcakes are typically finished with frosting or glaze, making them ideal for celebrations, parties, and bakery-style desserts.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour – 270 g
  • Baking powder – 2½ tsp
  • A pinch of salt
  • Butter (softened at room temperature) – 150 g
  • Sugar – 250 g
  • Eggs (room temperature) – 2 large (approx. 100 g without shell)
  • Refined oil – 20 g
  • Vanilla essence – 10 g
  • Milk (room temperature) – 240 ml
  • Icing sugar / powdered sugar – 110 g (for sugar glaze)
  • Lemon juice – 25 g (for sugar glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 170°C and line a cupcake tray with liners
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt
  3. Beat butter until smooth, then add sugar and whip until pale and fluffy
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition
  5. Mix in oil and vanilla
  6. Alternate dry ingredients and room-temperature milk, mixing gently
  7. Fill cupcake liners ¾ full
  8. Bake for 15–20 minutes without opening the oven early
  9. Cool completely, then finish with sugar glaze or frosting of choice
